HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY (GED) PREPARATION

GED PREPARATION AND BASIC EDUCATION CLASSES

For GED test applicants who failed the GED test and would like to take classes before retesting, the Adult Learning Center at LaGuardia Community College also offers preparatory classes. We have both tuition GED classes and free pre-GED or GED classes. Individuals who feel they need classes before taking the GED test should also apply.


FREE (Basic Education / GED Classes)

We have no openings in our Free BE/GED classes for classes that being in September 2010 (Fall Semester).

If you are interested in attending our program call us anytime in October and we will have details about our next registration for classes scheduled to begin in January 2011 (Winter Semester) or April 2011 (Spring Semester), depending on availability.

Tuition GED Classes

Prepare to take the GED/high school equivalency exam and start building your future!

You will focus on reading, writing and mathematics, and participate in career planning workshops, presented by academic counselors. You'll also receive advisement on opportunities in certification and college credit programs.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
The 60 hour course is open to those 19 years of age or older who demonstrate the ability to read and write in English at the eighth grade level and perform basic arithmetic functions. During registration, you will take a 35-minute reading exam, a 20-minute math survey, and provide a writing sample. In order to enroll in the course, you must pass all three sections.
Only Candidates with appropriate reading, writing, and math skills will be admitted to the class.
You may be required to purchase a GED book with calculator. Consult your teacher for the book title and cost.
In order to qualify for the course, you must attend a registration session on one of the following dates:

The registration process takes about two and a half hours. Please be on time. Latecomers will be turned away. Please bring a pen, a pencil and some form of ID to the registration.

PLEASE NOTE: REGISTRATION IS ACCORDING TO SPACE AVAILABILITY, FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED.

If you've taken the GED exam before, depending on your test scores, you may be exempt from testing at the time of registration. To find out if you are exempt, bring your GED test scores to registration.

The cost of this course is $240.00 plus a $15.00 non refundable registration fee.
Please have a separate check or money order for the registration fee: $15.
Payable by check or money order on the day of registration.

Public assistance recipients and those 60 years of age and older may receive a discount and pay $120.00.
You must bring your benefit card to the registration in order to receive the discount.
